Arkansas State Fair
By Abby Crites
The Arkansas State Fair is an 11 day event that brings visitors from all over the region to Little Rock. This year, the fair will be in town from October 12-22, 2017. The fair hosts events such as livestock competitions, cook-offs, craft shows, concerts and traditional carnival attractions.
Younger children may find the farm animals to be the most exciting event at the fair. While older kids may be more interested in the ferris wheel and roller coasters. And of course, they all love to eat the funnel cakes or cotton candy for dinner!
Many people attend to try the unique flavors that the fair is famous for serving. Nearly 50 vendors line up to sell the chocolate dipped corn dog, fried grilled cheese, chicken pot pie in a cone or sweet tea on a stick. Anything on a stick becomes a fun treat at the fair!
Every night ends with a concert. The 2017 lineup features a variety of artists, including Vince Neil of heavy metal band Motley Crue and lead singer Ann Wilson of rock band Heart. Entry to the concert is included with gate admission.
The last weekend of the fair, guests can purchase tickets to the rodeo and watch calf roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and many more competitions. This two night event brings together veteran competitors and rising stars from around the region. Stick around for the most exciting event- the bull riding competition!
